About this journey
One of the world's great road journeys: the Friendship Highway from the Nepal border across the Tibetan plateau to Lhasa, taking in the north side of Everest along the way.
You'll stand at Rongbuk, the world's highest monastery, with the sheer north face of Everest filling the valley, cross a string of 5,000 m passes strung with prayer flags, and pass the turquoise Yamdrok lake and the historic towns of Gyantse and Shigatse.
Careful acclimatisation is built into the route, which climbs gradually as it heads east — ending in Lhasa with its great palaces and temples.
